TripLibreLab for iOS · by HHT Diary
Replay the days TripLibre recorded.
TripLibreLab turns a travel diary exported from TripLibre into a day you can play back on a map, then share as a picture once you have hidden what you'd rather keep private. TripLibre records your days; TripLibreLab is where you look back at them.

How it works
Import. Replay. Share.
The first release does one thing well: it takes a diary you already have and lets you watch a day of it again. Everything happens on your iPhone, without an account, a server, or TripLibre running at the same time.
01 · export
Export from TripLibre
In TripLibre, Settings › Create export writes a folder that includes a SQLite snapshot of your diary.
02 · import
Open it in TripLibreLab
Pick the file from the Files app. TripLibreLab checks that it can read it and, if not, tells you why.
03 · replay
Pick a day and press play
The day's trips and stops appear in order on a timeline and a map. Play, pause and scrub through it.
04 · share
Review, then share
Preview a summary image, hide or blur places and times you want to keep private, and share it with the iOS share sheet.
TripLibreLab is being built now. These steps describe the first release as planned; there are no screenshots yet because the interface does not exist yet. See Getting started for what is confirmed and what is still pending.
Scope
Replay first. Everything else later.
Each version should be useful on its own. The first one replays and shares; simulation and comparison are ideas for later, not promises.
In progress
Replay & Share
Import a TripLibre export, choose a recorded day, replay it on a map, and share a privacy-reviewed summary image.
Planned
ReShape
Make alternative versions of a day, such as leaving later or skipping a stop, under stated assumptions. Every generated journey is labelled synthetic.
Exploratory
Advisory
Compare alternatives against goals you choose, with "keep my original day" always one of the options. Trade-offs, not prescriptions.
What you are looking at
Recorded, replayed, or made up? Always labelled.
A smooth animation can look more certain than the data behind it. TripLibreLab keeps four kinds of movement apart and says which one is on screen.
| Kind | What it means | Status |
|---|---|---|
| Observed | Trips, stops and GPS points as recorded and reconstructed by TripLibre. | Release 1 |
| Replayed | The animation between recorded points. Where only a trip's start and end are known, the connecting line is drawn as schematic, not as a measured path. | Release 1 |
| Synthetic | An alternative day generated from explicit assumptions. Not observed, and not a prediction of what you will do. | Planned |
| Advisory | A comparison of alternatives against goals you set. An estimate with stated uncertainty, not a recommendation to change your life. | Exploratory |
The HHT Diary family
A companion, not a replacement.
TripLibreLab does not record anything. It needs a diary from TripLibre, and keeps working on the copy you give it.
records
TripLibre
The local-first travel diary for iPhone. Records where you go, rebuilds each day into visits, trips and modes, and exports it.

TripLibreLab
Imports a TripLibre export and turns it into something to watch, explore and share. Never collects location itself.

The umbrella project behind both apps: open, personal tools for understanding everyday travel.

Nothing leaves the phone unless you share it.
TripLibreLab is designed to work offline, with no account and no server. It opens your export read-only and never uploads it.
A day of travel can reveal where someone lives, works and sleeps, even without a name on it. That is why sharing always goes through a preview where you can hide start and end places and exact times, and why nothing is shared automatically.
The export you import from TripLibre is a complete copy of your diary, raw GPS points included. Treat the file itself with care. The Data & privacy page explains what TripLibreLab reads, what it keeps, and what a shared image contains.
Release status
Not available yet.
TripLibreLab is in early development. There is nothing to download today; this page will say so when there is.
In progress
First release: Replay & Share
Import, day picker, map replay and share preview, built in SwiftUI for iOS. Development happens in the open on GitHub.
Planned
App Store
Submission comes after the first release works on its own and passes testing. It depends on App Review, so there is no date yet.
Want to be ready? Install TripLibre now. Any days it records can be exported and replayed once TripLibreLab is out.
