Using TripLibreLab
Replay & share
A replay should look like your day without pretending to know more than your diary does. This page explains what is drawn, what is animated, and what ends up in a shared image.
The timeline and the map
A replay has two views of the same day. The timeline lists stays and trips in the order they happened, with their times. The map shows where they were. Both follow one clock: as the replay plays or you scrub, the current moment is highlighted on the timeline and the marker moves on the map.
Everything in a replay comes from the diary you imported. TripLibreLab does not look up routes, add stops, or correct travel modes; corrections belong in TripLibre, followed by a fresh export.
Recorded points and animated movement
Between two recorded GPS points the marker has to move somehow, so the app animates it. That animation is not measurement. TripLibreLab draws three kinds of line differently:
| On the map | Meaning |
|---|---|
| Solid route | The trip's recorded points, joined in order. The path is as good as the GPS behind it. |
| Dashed, schematic line | Only the trip's start and end are known. The line shows that a trip happened, not where it went. |
| Moving marker | The replay's current position. Between recorded points it is interpolated, so treat it as approximate. |
The exact styling will be documented with screenshots once the interface exists.
Playback controls Pending
| Control | What it does |
|---|---|
| Play / pause | Start or stop the replay at the current moment. |
| Restart | Go back to the start of the day. |
| Scrubber | Drag to any time of the day; the map and timeline follow. |
| Trip and stop labels | Tap an item on the timeline to jump to it. |
Sharing a replay Pending
The first release shares a static summary image of a day. Video export is a candidate for a later release (see the Roadmap).
- Open the share previewTripLibreLab draws the image from the day you are replaying.
- Choose what to revealHide or generalise the start and end places, which are most often home and work, and leave out exact times.
- Check the imageThe preview is exactly what will be shared. Nothing is added afterwards.
- Share itUse the iOS share sheet. TripLibreLab never uploads or posts anything itself.
Before you share
A map of one day can be enough to work out where someone lives or works, even with no name on it. Hide the ends of the day, prefer a day that does not start and end at home, and remember that once an image is sent, you cannot take it back. More on the Data & privacy page.
